There is no better place to be in the summer than the fabulous city of New York.

Everywhere you turn there is something new to do.  No matter the size of your wallet, there is always something interesting going on.  Whether you don’t want to spend a dime or are willing to shell out as much as needed, check out some of the summer fun things happening in NYC.

Movie Night at Bryant Park

Every Monday night this summer, HBO is sponsoring movie screenings at Bryant Park.  The best part?  It’s free!  Get there early and save your spot.  The movie starts at 5 PM, so bring your friends, bring some food, and have a twilight picnic while you enjoy classical movies.  Check out the site to see the full movie listing.

Coney Island

That’s always a classic.  Still recovering from Hurricane Sandy, the boardwalks and parks are open for business!  Nothing beats riding the Cyclone or eating a famous Nathan’s hot dog.  With family or friends, it is a great way to spend the day.  Bring some money if you’re planning to ride some of the rides.  If not, browse through the flea markets or walk along the beach.  Don’t forget there’s a free fireworks show every Friday during the summer.

Kayaking

If you prefer an active lifestyle, why not go kayaking on the Hudson River?  The NYC Downtown Boathouse is the place to go!  With multiple locations along the river, they provide the equipment as well as changing rooms.  Paddle up and down the river, all the while enjoying the NYC skyline.

Midsummer’s Night Swing

Put on your dancing shoes!  Almost every night right outside Lincoln Center is a dance party!  There are group lessons going on there, but right after, the live band starts playing and everyone starts dancing.  Tickets are $17, but you can also buy season passes.  Each night is a different type of dance, so check out their website to see which one fits you best.

Yoga Class

Once again we’re back at Bryant Park.  With morning sessions on Tuesdays and evening sessions on Thursdays, it’s easier than ever to keep fit.  These sessions are free, so grab a couple of friends and join other yoga enthusiasts or an hour of exercise.  Come early though.  The room fills up fast.  After all, who’s going to pass a free yoga class?
